Headlight Dehumidifier for Opel Insignia A

The Opel Insignia A is known for a common problem: fogged headlights due to trapped moisture that cannot reliably escape on its own. This moisture not only affects the appearance but can also damage the electronics and reflectors within the headlight in the long term.

To permanently solve this problem, I have designed specially developed dehumidifier containers that are mounted directly inside the headlight.

Function & Mode of Operation

The containers are filled with orange silica gel, which actively absorbs moisture from the ambient air. As soon as the silica binds moisture, it changes color from orange to green – making it visible at all times when regeneration is required.

The silica can be easily dried in an oven at approx. 110 °C for about 45 minutes and is then fully ready for use again. To do this, unscrew the container and place the silica in a heat-resistant bowl and put it in the oven or air fryer.

Material & Temperature Resistance

The containers are made of a high-temperature-resistant, carbon fiber-reinforced nylon with very high dimensional stability.

The material is designed for use in a vehicle environment and reliably withstands elevated temperatures.

Installation in the Headlight

The lid of the containers has a conically tapering hexagon that fits precisely into the inside of the original headlight covers. Once inserted, the container sits firmly in the lid and can perform its function directly inside the headlight.

Installation should be carried out carefully, as the components are deliberately designed to be delicate to take up as little space as possible. Optionally, the container can also be secured with double-sided adhesive tape.

Tested in a model with Xenon and AFL including active cornering light. Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the fit for other equipment.

The headlight cover is not included in the scope of delivery! The picture with the headlight cover is for illustration purposes only.

Note

This is about preventing and counteracting fogged headlights and small amounts of moisture in the headlights. The containers will not work wonders against water standing in the headlight or similar amounts of moisture. If you can breed goldfish in them, my product unfortunately won't help you either.
