Optimized Brake Cooling for Opel Astra G/H & Zafira A/B – Targeted Airflow to the Brake
This brake cooling system was developed for the Opel Astra G, Astra H, Zafira A, and Zafira B and is based on the fundamental principle of the original Astra G OPC brake cooling. However, in cooperation with Donni (a well-known name in the Opel scene), the concept has been consistently further developed and significantly optimized in terms of dimensions and airflow.
Approx. 50% larger inlet area
Compared to the series solution, this brake cooling has an approximately 50% larger inlet area. This allows significantly more fresh air to be drawn in and directed to the brake system – a clear advantage for sporty driving, track days, or prolonged high loads.
Optimized exit angle – air where it's needed
The exit angle has been specifically adjusted in both the horizontal and vertical areas. The goal was not to direct the fresh air past the brake disc towards the rim, but directly onto the brake disc and especially the brake disc hat.
This is precisely where the greatest thermal stress occurs – and this is precisely where this brake cooling system comes into play.
Material & Construction
The brake cooling system is manufactured from a carbon fiber-reinforced, heat and UV-resistant plastic. With a wall thickness of 2.5 mm all around, the component is designed to be stable and intended for continuous use under demanding conditions.
OEM-like mounting on the control arm
The attachment is – like the original – directly on the control arm. The necessary mounting material is included in the scope of delivery:
- M6 screw
- Washer
- Self-locking nut
This allows for simple and clean mounting without additional adjustments.
Mounting instructions
The brake cooling systems should be tightened carefully during mounting. A tightening torque of approx. 3Nm is sufficient. As with many plastic components, the rule here is: After tight comes "snap". Due to the self-locking nut, there is no risk of the part coming loose again. However, I still recommend regularly checking that the parts are seated securely.
Due to the larger dimensions compared to the series solution, it is absolutely necessary to check after mounting that the brake cooling is installed with sufficient clearance to all moving components (e.g., wheel and brake when compressed and at full lock, drive shafts, control arms, steering).
Additionally, the ground clearance should be checked when installed, especially for lowered vehicles or modified suspension geometry.
Note on approval
For this brake cooling system, there are no part certificates, ABEC certificates, or other approval documents available. Use on public roads is therefore only permitted after successful approval by an authorized testing organization (e.g., TÜV, DEKRA, KÜS).
It is expressly recommended to clarify the eligibility for registration before installation with the respective testing organization. The approval and legality within the scope of the StVO (German Road Traffic Regulations) is the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
