OEM-Look Airbox with Optimized Sound – Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7 / 8 / 9

This airbox for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7, 8, and 9 was developed with a clear goal: maintain OEM appearance, improve sound and airflow.
Visually almost original from the outside, it is consistently optimized for performance and acoustics on the inside.

OEM Look Meets Performance

The lid and air intake snorkel closely resemble the original airbox and integrate perfectly into the engine bay. At first glance, everything appears near-series – which was precisely the goal.

The lower part has been specifically redesigned to accommodate a sport air filter. Additionally, the box can discreetly draw fresh air from the wheel arch area without immediately standing out visually.

Expandable with Cold Air Intake

To further optimize airflow, the airbox can optionally be combined with my Cold Air Intake. This way, fresh air is specifically drawn from outside the engine bay – for lower intake air temperatures and better flow.

Adjustments to the Mass Air Flow Sensor & Blow-Off

The position of the mass air flow sensor (MAF) has been slightly altered to accommodate the sport air filter inside the box. This works without issues with the original, flexible intake pipe between the turbocharger and the MAF.

With rigid aftermarket intake pipes, minor adjustments may be necessary. The position of the blow-off connection also changes minimally, as the hose is routed slightly differently.

Snorkel – Deliberately Kept Flexible

The mounting holes in the snorkel were deliberately not pre-drilled. Even small changes in the airbox's position can make a big difference at the front of the radiator support.

For optimal fitment in every vehicle, the mounting holes on the radiator support must be set individually. This ensures maximum flexibility during installation.

Sound Through Material & Wall Thickness

The airbox is entirely made of carbon fiber reinforced nylon. The wall thickness was deliberately chosen to be thinner to utilize the box as a resonator.

The result: more intake noise and presence under load, without being unpleasant or intrusive. Exactly the right mix of sound and understatement.

1:1 Replacement – Without DIY Solutions

The airbox replaces the original box 1:1 and uses the original mounting points for attachment. No cutting, no improvisation – simply install.

Cooperation with JPN Carcare

This product was developed in collaboration with JPN Carcare. JPN had previously implemented a similar solution where original airboxes were cut open and modified.

Our common goal was to further develop this idea – without destroying original, now rare airboxes.

The result is a completely newly developed airbox that offers the advantages of the well-known modifications, but is entirely new manufactured and does not sacrifice valuable OEM parts.
